
Jazmine Sullivan was born in and was raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam is Jazmine's mom, and is a former backing singer who was a part of Philadelphia International Records. When she was five Her father was appointed as the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved to the historic mansion. In 2005, a Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduate who is majoring in the area of vocal. Sullivan was a contralto member of the choir for children and later after a couple of years later she joined in the adult choir. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. She recounts how she was eleven when someone asked her to sing solos in church. She wasn't yet ready for. "Then the time came that McDonald's held a contest for students in big cities and I was offered the chance to sing 'Accept What God Allows' on It's Showtime on the Apollo and the audience responded really well".
